Your child is learning about four forms of poetry as well as the common elements in a poem. They will also be creating some of their own. :) Poetry is all about expression, feelings, and creativity especially with word choice and figurative language. We've also explored speaking and writing with similes and metaphors to make language a little more interesting and playful. I've kept other past anchor chart available here because reading skills stretch across the text genres. Feel free to find some poems and explore them together with your kids! Most of them really have fun with poetry. Here is a fun, safe resource by poet Kenn Nesbitt for silly and focused poems to enjoy together.
